Hard Crust, Sweet Filling...Week 9

Image
¡Hola, todos amigos (y amigas)! This week has been crazy difficult. We had to go on a little "trip" to Zaragosa and meet some of the other Elders in our zone. Elder Damuni and Elder Gordon. Elder Damuni is a stud polynesian that is probably the nicest guy you'll ever meet, but after his mission, he is going to play football at Utah State! Elder Gordon is my homie from Mapleton, Utah! We talked forever about the good things back home, and we're excited for what awaits us! But right now is the work. Speaking of the work, we weren't able to find new investigators right away because we were in Zaragosa. So when we got back we had to work really hard. He had a whole day of at least (cause I lost count) 81 doors slammed in our faces. And that's okay! Yes, this is hard. BUT WORTH IT! Because the worth of every soul is great in the sight of God. The next day (Friday) we we're able to find 2 investigators. A single father with 2 daughters. He felt like the...

Two months in and our road to happiness...Week 8

Buenas... todas personas! I'm finally at the 1/12 mark of my mission and a lot has happened! It's crazy here. We have set two baptismal dates and I'm supposed to perform the ordinances. So I have a lot of studying to do. It's getting easier understanding other people and I'm getting a lot better at speaking cause I choose only to speak spanish with my companion. I am trying to learn five new words every day, which isn't that bad, but not too easy. I know that by the gift of toungues I will be able to learn spanish. I also found someone that is from texas and speaks english. It was really cool to teach someone in english about the restoration of the gospel. I was also able to finish the book by M Russel Ballard "Our Search for Happiness". That was an amazing book and it helped me have an experience that helps me understand our road to happiness. I also had the opportunity to read the article "The Gospel Path to happiness" by elder je...

Primera Semana en el Campo Misional...Week 7

Hey y'all! It's been a crazy week so far. My companion is a latino and his name is Elder Ibarra. He plays football (American!) and has an odd sense of humor. Anyways... this first week has been really slow. It's hard cause people speak really fast and it's hard for me to understand. Other than that, I just need to make sure I have the Spirit with me, and know more words. Then I'll be good!  I had some crazy experiences this week though. We had five investigators come to church with us and they all loved it! They saw a young boy receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. I was able to see his baptism. He has a walking problem though. It caused me to not take the gospel for granted. People have sacrificed so much. And this boy knows it's true and knows that he will receive a perfect body in heaven.  My next experience was with our other four investigators that came to church. Rosaria told us that she has been praying and praying and has not received comfort or ...

Saltillo! Week 6

Hey mom! We arrived safely to President Cahoon´s house and he fed us breakfast and we are emailing, being interviewed, and taking naps until lunch. We will meet our companions tomorrow and tonight we go out and teach immediately. So exciting! Pres. and sis. Cahoon are amazing and so kind. They have a great vision for the mission which I´d like to share with you but I don´t have much time. I´m glad we could talk today on the phone. It was impossible to keep myself together in front of a bunch of people on a phone, but that´s okay. It doesn´t matter. Apparently the rule is that in our houses we speak only english and in the field we speak only spanish. It´s gonna be great! It was hard to hear you guys when we talked today, but I could feel the spirit and I hope you felt the spirit as I bore my testimony to yáll. Mom, here´s the mission address:  Mexico Saltillo Mission Eulalio Gutierrez #1057  Colonia Las Praderas  25295 Saltillo, Coahuila  Mexico ...

Bonus post! Week 5

So we sent Austin with some items, which included pants, money, and another camera. We sent the same camera he went orginally with. It has a wifi feature so he can load the pictures he takes and when he has internet it will automatically send them to us. He sent these this week! The next 2 pictures were posted on the CCM Facebook page. If you look really closely, you can see Simon back by the glass windows on the left side. If you look REALLY closely...and then Elder Cebollero is in the line behind the girls getting their picture taken. These were from conference weekend. It looks as though they have a churro station for the missionaries. Sounds like an idea for our conference viewing here at home.
