Primera Semana en el Campo Misional...Week 7

Hey y'all!
It's been a crazy week so far. My companion is a latino and his name is Elder Ibarra. He plays football (American!) and has an odd sense of humor. Anyways... this first week has been really slow. It's hard cause people speak really fast and it's hard for me to understand. Other than that, I just need to make sure I have the Spirit with me, and know more words. Then I'll be good!

I had some crazy experiences this week though. We had five investigators come to church with us and they all loved it! They saw a young boy receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. I was able to see his baptism. He has a walking problem though. It caused me to not take the gospel for granted. People have sacrificed so much. And this boy knows it's true and knows that he will receive a perfect body in heaven.

My next experience was with our other four investigators that came to church. Rosaria told us that she has been praying and praying and has not received comfort or answers, so at the end of our lessons, we were able to invite her to pray and she did. She felt the Spirit and wants to know more about our Heavenly Father.

The next thing is goal setting. Our mission president has asked us to step up our game and baptize more. It is because we are not baptizing enough. The people of Saltillo are 98% Catholic and 2% other. So those numbers are crazy extreme. My goal is to have a total of at least 50 baptisms by the end of my mission. That apparently hasn't been done here. So, I'll trust in the Lord and work hard. I'm not saying they're a statistic, I just want to invite others to come unto Christ, and do the impossible.

So, my challenge to you is: think of something that you think you can't do, and do it! If you encounter something that seems impossible, conquer it!

Hasta luego,
Elder Taylor

A flier shared by a family that is trying to convert Simon and his companion:

Notes from Mom: This was a tough week for Simon. He was more open with me and I don't want to leave out these parts. I think it will help illustrate the growth he will experience. Simon wrote, "Mom, this is so hard. I want to come home. My house is filled with bugs. Roaches, misquitos, flies, crickets, ants, anything. They're everywhere. I'm happy to serve, just not having a good time. We eat at places for free, and I just get as much water as I can whenever I can. We do our laundry at a members house and a little bit at our house. Mom, I miss the smell of your laundry detergent. Everything I do, see, hear, feel, reminds me of you and home. I do my best to kill them...I'm doing my best. We're eating Gringas after this. Then before we get home ONTIME, I'll get something. And make sure all my bottles are filled." I told him to be positive. He also sent a note card to explain a picture he took that went through on WIFI, prior to his p day. I told him he can wait to send pictures when he is allowed to on p day.

"Okay that's fine. I'll just stick with emailing them. I've lost a lot of weight this past week with going to bed hungry. Like 6 pounds when we passed by a doctors office."
